Everyone knows about Anne Frank’s diary, which became the worldwide bestseller Diary of a Young Girl, translated into more than 70 languages. But Anne’s was just one of over 200 children’s diaries that were found. What happened to these other children? What might they have become if they had survived?
Playwright Robert Mauro explores these questions and more in this powerful one act, imagining a time and place where Anne meets up with three other older teens who were also victims of the Holocaust. This play of remembrance speaks poignantly of the hopes and dreams of Anne, David, Rachel, and Michael before their fates were sealed. It also tells of what they sacrificed and what they had to endure before ultimately being sent to concentration camps to die. While tragic, the play offers a glimmer of hope that the children of the Holocaust are still with us somehow... as long as we remember them.
Especially in light of the current rise in anti-semitism, we cannot forget the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust.
