Author Profile:  Dennis Poore

Dennis Poore
Dennis Poore’s began his theatrical career at Centenary College in Louisiana, in the chorus of DAMES AT SEA.  From there, not only did the size of his roles increase:  King Sextimus in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, the Sheriff in THE VISIT, but so did his love of theater.  Eager to be part of all aspects of production, he started composing.  After writing original music for:  SUMMER AND SMOKE, HEDDA GABLER and ALL MY SONS, he decided to tackle writing an entire musical; B.C., based on the well-known comic strip; it was a hit.  Dennis began his music career in earnest.  He moved to Los Angeles playing piano in nightclubs and cabarets around town.  Word of his talent spread and he eventually became accompanist/arranger to such stellar talent as:  Liza Minnelli, Goldie Hawn, Al Jarreau, Joe Cocker and Paulette Pearson (Mrs. Denzel Washington).  With a strong musical directing resume under his belt, Dennis took on the challenge of songwriting and producing.  He traveled to England, where he produced the European dance hits STRANGE DESIRE and YOUNG MEN, for PolyDor Records in London.  It was on his travels that Dennis met comedienne Julie Brown.  Instant friends, they penned the cult faves CAUSE I'M A BLOND and BRAND NEW GIRL for the film EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY.  EARTH GIRLS has continued to keep Dennis in the limelight.  CAUSE I’M A BLOND continues to be a featured song in various television shows including:  Paris Hilton’s THE SIMPLE LIFE and HOLLYWOOD SQUARES.  After seeing his dream of his music featured in a film, Dennis returned to his theatrical roots.  He wrote music for productions of PENNYMAN, PRIZES and WALTZ OF THE TOREADORS.  Finally composing his own show, AN AMERICAN CANTATA, which had successful runs off-Broadway and Los Angeles.  It was when Dennis partnered with screenwriters Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus, that Dennis discovered a whole new aspect to his talents - composing/arranging shows for teens and tweens.  His shows:  THE ARGONAUTS, NOTTINGHAM and QUIXOTE have been done across the country to SRO crowds and standing ovations.  Dennis’ talents in Hollywood continue to be in demand:  he was nominated for a Clio Award for his Chase-Manhattan Bank jingle; he was a segment composer for AMERICAS MOST on Fox; and Dennis scored the action film MAXIMUM BREAKOUT for AIP.  His relationship to Julie Brown continues.  He’s her producer as well as co-writer for her album SMELL THE GLAMOUR.  Together, they are currently working on a stage version of EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY with Broadway producer, Jim Pentecost.
