Maybe you can make lemonade from lemons, but you can’t make wine from raisins according to the dotty Irish housekeeper at the Santa Casita Inn.  Set in the 1920s, complete with flapper dresses and a touch of jazz, the hotel is abuzz with activity as its proprietors prepare for a grand Hollywood party.  The managers of the establishment, Miriam and Sheldon Whitestone, maintain quippy marital repartee as Sheldon schools Miriam on the economics of running a business while Miriam allows her friend to host the Hollywood event at a great discount.  When a handsome stranger arrives, he clashes with the Whitestone’s daughter, Minabelle, who’s home from a university for the weekend.  As the night goes on, a spark develops between Minabelle and the stranger, but that could spell trouble considering her beau has accompanied her to the inn.  Multiple subplots — including a failed inventor, a downstairs psychic, an overworked bellhop, and a surprise family reunion — have this fast-paced comedy fully booked with mistaken identities, broken teapots, and even a cleverly staged “nude” appearance by Grandma Opal!  At sunrise, the plot takes a surprising twist that offers a whole new meaning to the phrase, “You can’t make wine from raisins.”
