Class valedictorian Maya Trembley has a strange quirk: as she collects yearbook signatures at the end of the school year, she doesn’t look at them until the very last day of school. So on the night before graduation when Maya first discovers a vague and mysterious message in her yearbook from the class salutatorian, Joel, she wonders what it means. Maya reflects on her life, and her flashbacks are colored by her perceptions of her past and present relationships with her peers, including her best friend, Becky, and her boyfriend, Nick. Her guesses about the message’s meaning spin in both dramatic and comedic directions as she relives memories of school years past. All of this reflection leads more to Maya’s growth, and even before she learns the true meaning of the yearbook message, she has changed from the person she once was.
