Wonderland! is an unabashedly silly adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass. With hip-hopping music, it is an upbeat, coming-of-age story that audiences of all ages will adore! You’ll recognize some of your favorite familiar characters of Alice’s Wonderland along with meeting dozens of new ones: a baseball team, a gospel group called The Responsibilities, a train conductor, star-struck tourists, plastic light-saber wielding knights and much more. I’ve done Wonderland with two very different performing groups and both loved it. The performances, as you can imagine, were completely different and awesome in their own way. One had a medium size cast, with parts spread over many (young) actors. The other was the bare minimum you could have and the actors were teens. The show is so flexible. Love the simple set and great characters.
Did it twice in fact, once with kids, once with adults. Great for a teaching show since the chorus can be on all the time.
This year’s production of Wonderland has to be my favorite! This is the first comedy we’ve done. And the music is so upbeat with a great variety of forms. It’s also do-able for high school kids rather than being Broadway. I also like the fact that it is written in a lighter manner rather than focusing on the dark side of Lewis Carroll.
