Every story needs a bad guy.  In this one, he happens to be a vampire.  But this play is not about witchcraft, dark arts, voodoo or black magic.  In fact, quite the opposite.  It’s about belonging and being true to who you are.  This play is a parable about a wondrous place where mortal enemies come together to live in peace.  It just happens to be told with humans and vampires...  and cool music.

A theatrical blend of drama, comedy, and romance, this beautifully written musical, with strong starring roles for a female and two males, focuses on the search for self-identity and finding a place to belong.  With her father in the service overseas and her mother passed away, Veruca is sent to live with her aunt and cousins in the small Louisiana bayou swamp town of Bonne Vie.  She hopes she’s finally found a place to call home, and meeting Eryck, a sweet but geeky teenager who’s never been out of Bonne Vie, certainly helps.  Yet despite its welcoming nature, there’s something eerie about this remote town hidden amongst the shadowy cypress trees.  Veruca and Eryck fall quickly in love and share a timeless kiss, but when the sun breaks through the trees for a moment, it becomes instantly apparent that something is very wrong.  Finding herself suddenly spurned, Veruca sets out to convince Eryck they can still be together, while a transformed Eryck attempts to protect her from the realities of this veiled town.  Complicating matters even more, Ripper, the dark and brooding Goth teenager, and his two vampiric companions, Drucilla and Lizzy, continuously torment Eryck and Veruca.  The pace quickens as Bobby John, a teen smitten with Veruca, plots with Veruca’s bitter cousin Jolie to steal Veruca away and leave town with her.  Enriched with an eclectic, beautiful score by Bill Francoeur, audience and actors alike will love Thirst for Life.
