”Joey, the Hackie” comes into an empty theatre to pick up an expected taxi fare.  Being a fan and a buff of old-time vaudeville, burlesque and musical comedy, Joey reminisces and even sings about the nostalgic ”good old days” in show business.  When he accidentally is hit on the head by a falling sandbag, he awakens to find himself embroiled within the plot and performance of an old-style melodrama.  The play-within-a-play takes place in the year 1883.  A salty and feisty old lady who owns a baseball team in Fort Wayne, Indiana is about to lose her franchise to an ambitious and conniving baseball manager.  This vile villain yearns for and pursues the spunky owner’s beautiful, young daughter who, in turn, has a boyfriend, the star pitcher of the ball club.  The team’s vamp as well as the three cheerleader/batgirls all try to help Joey and the club owner to thwart the villainous manager.  Simultaneously, the beautiful daughter and the young, hero-type pitcher are able to find love and each other before the finale.  (Contains some mature dialogue that may offend some audiences.)
