Letters from a respected New Jersey bank lure seven doomed ’guests’ to the eerie and fog-bound Skull Island on Cape Cod. Each hopes for a financial windfall. What each gets is — murder! Prime suspect is the crazed Bartholomew Frost, but his sister, who makes strange wooden puppets, might also have her finger on the hangman’s noose (all the victims are strangled). The unraveling of the bizarre plot involves a brash young writer and the details of a murder trial where a startling revelation comes too late. The interesting cast of characters supplies first-rate acting roles, including a frivolous socialite, a Broadway dancer, a dour antique dealer and a diabolical murderer. Whenever the terror gets too taut there’s always a moment to relieve the tension that is (murderously) funny. Finding out ’whodunit,’ why and how, will keep your audience guessing until the final curtain. Suitable for all groups.
