Filled with loads of both verbal and physical comedy, Omelette is more than just a parody of Shakespeare’s Hamlet — it’s a backstage romp filled with hilarity and high jinks that will delight actors and audiences alike.
Two teams come to the Globe Theatre to compete for the right to provide the plot for Shakespeare’s next great play. Shakespeare decides he wants to see the Danish team perform the comedy of Omelette, but the Scottish team, waiting to perform the tragedy of Macbeth, will stop at nothing to thwart their Danish rivals. Will Shakespeare love the Danish concoction, or will the deeds of the Scots ruin the play? By the end of the evening, you’ll know why the “Scottish play” has always been considered bad luck, why the Marx Brothers arrive to present a play within a play, and what really happened to Omelette’s father — the famous Danish chef and inventor of the cheese omelette.
