Sharing Through Theatre Royalty Donation Program Thought-provoking plays and musicals about social values, right and wrong life choices and their consequences
When a brick was thrown through a young boy’s window simply because he had a decal of a menorah, the people of Billings, Montana had to decide how to grapple with this violence.  Award-winning playwright Claudia Haas poignantly recounts the inspiring true story of the town’s quietly brave response to combat hatred.  The people of Billings knew that, when faced with intolerance, if a community doesn’t respond, then a community accepts.  The citizens courageously raised their voices and acted to loudly proclaim, “Not in our town!”  What they did started the national ”Not in Our Town” movement to stop hate, racism, and bullying, and build safe, inclusive communities for all.

As playwright Morey Norkin says, “Claudia Haas’s retelling of actual events is a well-crafted, important story.  As long as antisemitism and other forms of hate persist, we must not remain silent.”

Though set during the holiday season, this play is perfect any time you wish to empower people to take a stand against hate and build tolerance and acceptance.

Many plays beg the question “Why this play now?‘ Claudia Haas's Not in Our Town is both relevant and well-written.  This play is just what teen actors can bring to life for themselves and their community.  Well done.  Julie Zaffarano, playwright

I'd like to recommend this play about trying to reverse the ravages of hate.  I particularly like the coming together of community that works to overcome the hatred.  This is a terrific play for young adults to see, and I would urge community leaders to present it to members of their community as well. Bruce Karp, playwright
