What does your cat think of the boy you like?  How do the brownies feel about being a midnight snack?  Does proper silverware hold disdain for plasticware?  In this short play written specifically to be performed virtually, teenager Taylor quickly learns to navigate a world in which the objects and animals around her talk back. 

It’s no surprise that it starts with sassy feline, Mittens, who has a list of demands, including better food and a better name (seriously, who names their cat “Mittens”?), as well as concerns about a boy Taylor likes.  When Shiloh the family dog gets involved, Taylor soon learns that family pets will always display a loyalty that most humans cannot.  Later that night, a pan of brownies pleads its case with Taylor, while a forgotten organic chocolate bar begs to be eaten already.  It’s the kind of dream-like interaction you might expect from midnight snacks!  After the family has gone to bed, the adventures continue as a fork, knife, and spoon anxiously await a wash cycle and debate their fate.  When a plastic fork suddenly shows up in the dishwasher and disrupts their order and routine, all the silverware comes to the realization that nobody’s shine (or tines) last forever.

Actors and audiences of all ages will delight in the playful fun of these scenes.  All three scenes are connected thematically for a lighthearted one-act, or any scene can be performed independently, making the play ideal for contests, virtual class activities, or after school programs.
