This delightful comedy is cleverly written so that all six roles can be played by any gender, including an all-female or an all-male cast!
Young Ali Barbara (or Ali Bob) has been sent by her siblings to expand the family fortune. So, with 75 dirhams saved up from the family’s camel rental business, she reaches Alla-Walla Walla-Bah and decides to buy olive pits from an old woman so that she might soon have an olive orchard — and a fortune — for her family.
As Ali Barbara plants her pits in the desert, she finds a shorter path to fortune: a magical lamp complete with a genie! However, instead of granting Ali Barbara three wishes, this genie claims the genuine way it works is for the finder to grant the genie three wishes!
Tasked with the seemingly impossible, Ali Barbara resorts to trickery to appease the genie. But when Ali Barbara’s conscience gets the best of her, the genie is moved to goodwill by her honesty and they both discover that good fortune comes to those who deserve it.
