Set in the Southern Appalachians, Lanta, a seventeen-year-old girl, has beaten all who have run against her. Challenged by a mysterious old man, she scoffs, but because of his insistence, they race. Lanta does not realize that she is racing against "Death." Lanta’s Grandpaw and Granny look on and witness an ending which will stun and chill your audience.
