Known as one of the salt fairy tales, this adaptation of an English fairy tale by Joseph Jacobs won first place in the East Valley Children’s Theatre Aspiring Playwrights contest. Cap o’ Rushes follows the adventures of a young maiden named Sabine. The youngest of three sisters, Sabine is thrown out of her home after her father asks his daughters, “How much do you love me?” All three daughters answer with words of love, but Sabine’s response is, well, saltier than her sisters’. Unable to understand her response and feeling unloved, Sabine’s father blithely casts her out into the world. With the help of two magical sprites, Sabine re-invents herself as Cap o’ Rushes and carves out a new life for herself, working as a servant in the kitchen of a wealthy family. When she discovers and marries her true love, she is unexpectedly reunited with her long-lost family and old wounds are quickly forgiven. It’s a riches-to-rags-and-back-again story for the fairy-tale lover in everyone.

Get It Now! Immediate Downloads
Get It Now! allows you to immediately download PDFs of the script, director’s book, and music scores for our shows. Production/rehearsal CDs sets are also available for immediate download. You will not receive physical versions of anything you select for Get It Now! delivery. This option requires the purchase of a sufficient number of scripts (distribution rights) for your entire cast and pre-payment of your entire order, including royalties.
To choose this option, place your PRODUCTION ORDER normally, including the total number of scripts you need to make for your production. As with all production orders, you must order a minimum of one script per cast member. Then, select “Get It Now!” as your DELIVERY OPTION during checkout, indicate which materials you would like sent electronically, and enter your credit card information in the appropriate space. Make sure you’ve specified the exact number of performances and selected “Bill Now” for your royalties.
