Dude, check out this sweet, bombdiggity, awesome one-act musical ode to the 1980s! The Awesome 80s, a one-act version of the popular Totally Awesome 80s, is a tribute to the time of big hair and bright colors, with a rockin’ Bill Francoeur score that captures perfectly the sounds of the decade.
Just like all those iconic 80s teen movies, seeing beyond the school cliques to figure out who you are and who you want to be seems almost impossible! Allie is a poor girl who falls for the new, rich guy, Andrew. Allie’s longtime friend and fellow member of the lowly boho clique, Dempsey, is afraid to reveal his affection for her and tries to get her attention by hiring popular girl Madison to pretend to be his girlfriend. Geeky Geo tries to stay out of the way of the poshes, especially bullies Blane and Ferris, while Brenda just hopes someone — anyone — will remember her sweet sixteen birthday. On top of everything, with a nod to Dead Poets Society, Allie and her friends are trying to keep Mrs. Keating, their favorite teacher, from being wrongfully fired.
