Lovingly and very faithfully adapted from L. Frank Baum’s original novel, this Readers Theatre script requires no sets and only minimal props, permitting actors to pantomime key actions. Similarly, limited costuming can be used but is not necessary.
Told in true storyteller fashion, young audience members are encouraged to imagine the action instead of seeing it on stage. The storyline stays true to the original text, reducing the role of the Wicked Witch of the West and focusing more on the Wizard’s deceit and what happens to Dorothy and her friends after they’ve tossed that fateful bucket of water.
Pioneer Drama is excited to re-release this wonderful adaptation by the renowned Melvin White. Dr. White dedicated his career to educational and children’s theatre, having authored 107 plays and 17 books, including Readers Theatre Anthology, which Pioneer Drama is proud to publish.
