Modern, witty language and hilarious characters spice up this classic adaptation.  The beleaguered queen seeks to quell young Prince’s Philip’s infatuation with a kitchen maid, Melinda.  The queen already has enough to worry about with an empty treasury, a bumbling chamberlain and an inept minister.  But when the prince, who talks too much and too wildly (as a man in love will), boasts that Melinda can spin straw into gold, the queen sees this poor kitchen maid could be good for the kingdom after all!  As the story goes, the wicked troll, Rumpelstiltskin, helps Melinda come up with the gold in exchange for the promise of her first-born child.  Unfortunately, the prince overhears Rumpelstiltskin say his name, so he is now under the troll’s magic spell, leaving him unable to speak or write.  Despite the prince’s condition, the queen sees only the shimmering proof of Melinda’s valuable talent, approves of the marriage and retires to the South of France.  All seems well until their first child is born and disappears — into the clutches of the evil troll, whose name must be guessed to reverse the spell!  Still under the curse, the prince must play the charade game of his life to get their baby back and banish Rumpelstiltskin from their lives forever.
