Somewhere in the not-too-distant future, there’s a warehouse storing the stereotypical models of all humanity.  When everything goes according to programming, these models ideally carry out their functions and follow the storyline that’s been written for them.  But as it is with humankind, student models can be most volatile — prone to stubborn bouts of independence countered with sometimes surprisingly rational behavior. 

In other words, thanks to a former renegade programmer, it turns out even Patrice’s “model students” have growing pains.  And while it’s Patrice’s job to keep these models in line and decide whether their conformity programming is best for growth, she learns soon enough that the model teens’ free will cannot be simply controlled with program patches or remotes.  As the archetypical students free themselves of the programming they’ve been given, the question turns to whether Patrice can do the same. 

Feeling very contemporary and offering a touch of sci-fi blended with an exploration of our expected roles in society, this play provides plenty of opportunity for keen character studies while giving an in-depth overview of the value of singularity.
