In the style of classic Japanese theatre, this is a stunning parable on the danger of beauty. Princess Sasha is so lovely that her father has always kept her hidden. When the king finally agrees to throw a dance in her honor, two suitors fight over her, leaving one dead. Steeped in remorse over the anguish her beauty has caused, Sasha goes to an ugly witch and trades faces with her. The witch takes the princess’ place, hiding evil behind her false loveliness. The true princess is crushed when Prince Orlando does not see beyond her now revolting face. At last the depth of the prince’s love helps him see beyond the princess’ ghastly mask, and evil is overcome as Sasha is transformed back to her beauty. Highly rated by the American Alliance for Theatre & Education, the script includes, at no extra charge, an additional one act, "The Magic Oysters," done in the same Japanese style, for an evening of "Transformations."
