Our Pledge Regarding the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Playwriting
Pioneer Drama Service is dedicated to promoting and celebrating the hardworking playwrights, composers, lyricists, and other artists that we are honored to represent. We owe our collective existence as publishers to their art, and we will never abandon them for artificial imitations.
As representatives of authors’ and musicians’ intellectual property, we believe that human expression cannot be replaced by algorithms. Artificial Intelligence — encompassing Machine Learning (ML), Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI, and any other iterations of AI yet to be developed — does not belong in the creation of plays and musicals or in any of their creative elements including, but not limited to, plot structure, characters, dialogue, music, and stage directions.
To this end, we pledge the following:
- To never knowingly allow titles in our respective catalogs to be used to train AI.
- To never knowingly commission, develop, or publish any plays or musicals with any elements generated in whole or in part using AI.
- To immediately nullify any publishing contract on works found to have been created with elements generated in whole or in part using AI.
As business people in the arts, we believe that intellectual property deserves protection, and as theatre lovers, we believe that there is no artificial substitute for human expression.
