One More Month To Go...
If you teach a drama class in a school, you know exactly what we mean when we say “one more month to go...” Your mainstage production is done — congratulations! But all your students are showing signs of something, whether it’s spring fever, senioritis, or just a general post-production malaise. And yet... you have ONE MORE MONTH TO GO before the end of the school year! How do you keep them involved, engaged, and learning in these last four to six weeks?
Sure, there are always theatre games, improv, and that unit of Theatre History that you’ve managed to avoid so far. But there has to be something else too, right? Beyond our extensive collection of books of theatre games, here a fresh list of other solid suggestions to keep your students engaged and learning.
- Put on a radio play. With no memorization, costumes, sets, or props required, radio plays require less rehearsal time and are a fun, creative way to end the year. Think of the fun they’ll have brainstorming how to create live sound effects! You’ll love our brand new radio show, Sam Shovel, Private Eye or any of our other radio plays.
- Produce a quick and easy one-act, perhaps even as a student-directed project. Last week’s Free Read Friday featured Twelve Hangry Jurors, a hysterical 20-minute play that comes together in just a few rehearsals! In fact, Pioneer Drama has dozens of 15-25 minute plays that are fun and cost less than $150 for all your materials and one performance royalty. These short shows are also extremely popular as student-directed plays.
- Have fun with royalty-free skits. Our collection of over 110 royalty-free skits are the best buys on our website! These PDFs are very reasonably priced and come with lifetime unlimited photocopying and production rights! Buried within these 110 PDFS, you’ll find the true hidden gems — the hysterical comedy skits of Carol Burnett!
- Introduce your students to readers theatre. From classic literature to how-and-why stories to multicultural folktales, these plays are all royalty-free and like radio plays, do not require memorization, sets, costumes, or props.
- Have fun with Creativity Cards. Discover instant story starters, acting choices, improv prompts, and details for theatre games, storytelling, mime, playwriting, and character development. The cards also inspire creative choices for writing, dance, music, and art projects. You’ll get years of use out of these 500 engaging and durable cards, divided into ten color-coded categories: people, animals, creatures, things, emotions, personalities, mannerisms, activities, settings, and objectives.
