It’s been a couple of weeks since we wrapped up Monologue Mania! but we’re still receiving great feedback about the fun, FREE resource.  So, how about we add another?

Today’s monologue is totally topical!  As many of us find ourselves home more than usual, we’re also experiencing a lot more screen time.  For kids and teens, especially, this can include lots and lots of video gaming.

In “Virtual Cooking, Anyone?”  from Ups and Downs, a son modestly celebrates getting a new gaming system.  Sure, he’s excited, but his parents’ rules threaten to take all the fun out of it.  What’s up with that?  (And Son can easily be Daughter, since we all know girls can game as well as the guys!)

Meanwhile, the parent is feeling pretty generous about their decision to let the kid have a new gaming system.  But they aren’t about to let it take over the kid’s life!

The two monologues reflect not just how parents and kids have different perspectives, but how they also value much different priorities.  Challenge your young actors to try both parts.  Use humor to gently remind them that, in the end, we all become our parents, and they will too!  So play it up!

Besides 30 sets of paired monologues from different perspectives, like these, Ups and Downs also has 20 monologues with two different suggested scenarios and 20 monologues that can be played with more than 100 different emotions.

For more tips on how to share these monologues with students or guidelines about sharing monologue performances with us, check out any of our previous Monologue Mania!

Let us know how you’ve used Monologue Mania!  in your distance learning curriculum!  And consider some of them for short and fun summer lessons!  Or, visit our website for new virtual scenes, virtual production packages, and Royalty-Free Skits.
