Cell Phone Envy
It’s a wrap! Today’s monologues mark the end of our six weeks of Monologue Mania! We loved hearing from you how much you’ve appreciated this free resource and invite you to continue incorporating these monologues in your virtual lessons and even when you get back to school. Remember, you will always be able to retrieve the nearly 40 monologues from Monologue Mania! in our newsletter archives.
Today’s monologues are just one pair of 30 similar pairs of two-perspective monologues from Rebecca Wright’s Ups and Downs. But the great thing about all the monologues in this book is how they explore emotions.
Today’s monologues, “Cell Phone Envy,” are particularly topical given our current evolving relationship with technology. What’s more, these monologues could provide a great chance for some role reversal, where the kid can try to see things from the parent’s perspective... and vice versa! Teachers, encourage both students and their parents to consider trading places for extra fun!
The nature of how we communicate with one another has changed drastically in recent weeks, so feel free to draw from personal experiences. In what other ways are cell phones advantageous right now? And are there some ways in which they’re more detrimental than ever before?
Besides 30 sets of paired monologues from different perspectives, Ups and Downs has 20 monologues with two different suggested scenarios, as well as 20 monologues that can be played with a variety of emotions. That’s a total of 70 monologues with nearly unlimited possibilities!
