Author Profile: Kenneth Wasemann
Kenneth became involved with theater when he volunteered to help build the set for his school’s Drama Club. By the end of that first production, he had been “promoted" from carpenter, to stage hand, to assistant director, and even cast member as he provided the offstage voice for the “Mysterious Stranger”. He has subsequently been the co-sponsor of the Drama Club for more than twenty years.
Being involved with his school’s theater program was Kenneth’s inspiration to begin writing the scripts for his own plays. Greatly influenced by his love of science fiction, fantasy, and geeky pop-culture, his writing process often entails sitting at his computer, writing absurd dialogue and giggling at his own jokes. Many of his quirky characters are inspired by the real-life, lovable nerds that populate his Drama Club.
Kenneth became a published playwright when his play, The Epic Quest of the Damsels in Distress, won Pioneer Drama’s A+ Playwriting Contest for Teachers in 2022. He continues to write plays for his theater program and publication, with genres ranging from enchanting fairytales, to modern-day satires, to epic science fiction adventures.
