Author Profile: Jack Kocher
After attending Bowling Green State University, Kocher served with the Army Band in Europe during World War II and studied piano at the Paris Conservatory of Music.
He taught clarinet, saxophone and flute and was credited as orchestrating the music programs at the Berea, OH schools during the 1960s and 70s — making sure that students were offered a balanced curriculum of choral and instrument music.
Kocher's "spare" time was filled with being a church choir director, director-accompanist for the West Shore Pops Chorale, and musical director for Berea Summer Theatre productions and the Beck Center Teen and Children's Theatre School in Lakewood, OH. It was there that Kocher co-wrote Pioneer's musical version of The Princess and the Pea. Jack was proud that the script had been performed throughout the United States.
Just when others his age were settling down, Kocher opened his own piano tuning and repair business, often giving impromptu concerts to demonstrate that his job was done and done well.
Jack Kocher passed away in 1999.
