Playwrights, Composers, Lyricists and Authors
Playwright and screenwriter Jonathan Dorf’s plays have been produced in more than thirty states, as well as in Canada, Europe and Asia. He has been a finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award, the Hyperion One Act Award, the Weinberger Playwright Residency and the Interact and Charlotte Rep New Play festivals, and he has worked with such companies as the Walnut Street Theatre, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Ensemble Studio Theatre – LA, the Pittsburgh New Works Festival and City Theater Company in Wilmington, Delaware, with whom he is a resident playwright. More than a dozen of his plays are published by such companies as Brooklyn Publishers, Eldridge Publishing and Playscripts, Inc., with monologues published in collections published by Meriwether and Smith & Kraus. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Los Angeles-based Ariadne Group.
Resident playwriting expert for Final Draft (for whom he created the playwriting "Ask the Expert") and The Writers Store (creator of Playwriting101.com and playwriting instructor at Writers University), he is the co-chair of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights. His experience working with young playwrights includes heading the drama program at The Haverford School, being playwright-in-residence and teacher of playwriting at the Choate Rosemary Hall Summer Arts Conservatory, working as a teaching artist for Philadelphia Young Playwrights and conducting classes and workshops at schools and theatres across the country. He holds a BA in Dramatic Writing and Literature from Harvard University and an MFA in Playwriting from UCLA, residing in Los Angeles and in the virtual world at http://www.jondorf.com.
