Author Profile:  Scott DeTurk

Scott Deturk graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Music in composition.  He has lived in Los Angeles, New York, Denver and the San Francisco area where he has worked extensively in theater, film, television and recording as a composer, arranger, orchestrator and musical director.

Scott, in collaboration with Dale Wasserman and Bill Francoeur, composed music and lyrics to Western Star, recently published by Music Theater International.  He has also written music and lyrics to six musicals published by Pioneer Drama Services.  Recently he has been working with James Mellon and Bill Francoeur on The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, a new musical which ran in Los Angeles in 2005.  It won six Artistic Director Achievement (ADA) awards including best new musical and Backstage West’s Garland award for best new score.  It was nominated for the Robby award for best new score as well as seven Ovation awards, including best new musical.  Scott also collaborated with James Mellon on Dorian, a new musical based on the Picture of Dorian Gray and Lizard, which opened to critical acclaim in Los Angeles in 2006 and is based on a book with the same title by Dennis Covington.

In the last three years, Scott has worked on four new musicals; Pest Control, Yo Ho Ho (A Pirate's Christmas), The Thief and Insanity, which were all recently produced in Los Angeles.  Scott is developing another new musical, Journey, which will soon have its first reading at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.
