Author Profile:  Candyce A.  Petersen

Candyce A. Petersen
What advice would I give a director selecting a play?  First, analyze your audience.  Now look for a script that changes their paradigm...  a script that examines a particular situation or story from a different, fresh point-of-view.  Next, look for engaging characters with something important to say...  characters with whom your audience can identify.  And finally, look for humor.  Never under-estimate its power to open people's minds, dissolve their prejudices, and make them receptive to change.

Whether it's a play for the family, a church congregation, or the children who attend her popular drama-based "Madam Q Detective" vacation Bible schools, Candyce A.  Petersen incorporates all of the above in her writing...  as can be exemplified by her delightful Christmas comedy, If Angels Were Mortal. Formerly a teacher, Candyce's writing career began in 1986, writing for children's magazines and the education market.  Her credits include four children's science books.  Other successful plays include The Unexpected Guest, Elbow Room At The Inn, and Stable Mouse's Gift.

Candyce owns her own publishing company, Lighted Path Publications.  She has directed and acted in several plays.  A member of the Northwest Ohio Christian Writer's Association, Candyce also does volunteer work with children.  Her major goal as a writer is to present Christian teachings in an exciting, entertaining way that appeals to children of all ages.

Candyce Petersen lives in Maumee, Ohio with Steve (her husband of twenty-five years), daughter Kristen, her Shetland sheep dog and a pet dove.
