Author Profile: Maya Levy
Maya Levy says, “I grew up in a big house on a corner, in a small town in Louisiana, where, after many wanderings across the globe, I live today. On the same corner.
“I love being a theatre artist, because to me, theatre is one of the few places I know where everybody wins. The actors have a wonderful time rehearsing and then giving the play away to the audience. The audience has a wonderful time. Engaged by the players, they lose themselves in the play.
“As a playwright, I love the idea that, while I live in my little corner of the world, I'm connected through my plays, to people all around the globe: The young woman in Yellow Knife, Ontario; A student in Belgium; Recovering addicts in a rehab center in South Carolina; The girl in Holland, playing her part in Dutch; Audiences, sitting in the dark, lost in the magic of theatre. Through my words, they come to know something more about me. We're connected, in a very real, and wonderful way. We're neighbors, in the global village.
“Now, you will know something of me, through the Scenes and Monologs for Young Women. For I am all the parts, as are you.”
Maya Levy passed away in 2012.
