Young Mark Twain returns to the Garden of Eden from time to time to refresh his memory on a few points. Like everything else these days, the Garden is getting crowded with tourists dropping candy wrappers in the shrubbery and birdwatchers interrupting private thoughts. One thing remains constant, however... the story of Adam and Eve. Here it's told in a delightful manner utilizing both story theatre and pantomime. The play abounds in magical moments: the entrance of the animals, the birth of Cain and Abel, the serpent's wiles at the apple tree, the original man and woman coming to understand the meaning of enduring love. And always there's Mark himself... observing, commenting, involving the audience in a rich exchange of wit and humor. Adapted from "Extracts from Adam's Diary," "Pudd'nhead Wilson," "Eve's Diary" and miscellaneous Twain writings, the play requires only the bare stage for a setting.
