Nathan Hartswick
Nathan Hartswick was raised in northeastern Vermont, where theater was a family business – his parents and grandparents owned and operated the Vermont Children's Theater, a nonprofit organization dedicated to involving young people in the performing arts. Nathan had roles at VCT as a child and later wrote plays, taught workshops, and directed performances at the theater.
After studying music at the Crane School of Music and English at the State University of New York at Potsdam, Nathan spent many years in New York City, where he worked as an advertising copywriter and taught lessons and workshops in theater and music to students of all ages.
Currently Nathan lives in Burlington, VT, where he and his wife Natalie Miller run Spark Arts, a studio that offers affordable, high-quality lessons and classes in theater, music, comedy and movement to children, teens and adults. He believes in engaging students with energy and humor, a passion for the subject and a commitment to a rewarding learning experience.
In addition to teaching at Spark Arts and writing some of Pioneer Drama's most popular plays, Nathan also directs theater and film, produces improv, standup and musical comedy shows through his booking agency Vermont Comedy Club, and tours New England with his award-winning standup comedy act. He has two “cats” whose combined weight is equal to that of a small pickup truck.
