This award-winning play is based on the seventh book of L. Frank Baum’s beloved series.  Baum was a feminist before his time, and The Patchwork Girl of Oz has a strong girl-power theme, blending familiar Oz characters with delightful new creatures in this enchanting and whimsical adventure full of high spirits, physical comedy, adventure and good fun.  What starts out as an attempt to find a better life for Munchkin boy Ojo the Unlucky and his uncle, Unc Nunkie, turns out to be the adventure of a lifetime!  On their way to the Emerald City, they visit Unc Nunkie’s old friend Dr. Pip, who is polishing up his magic to bring a patchwork doll to life.  But when she springs to life, she mistakenly spills the Liquid of Petrifaction on Dr. Read more...Pip’s wife and Unc Nunkie, instantly turning them into marble statues!  What’s worse, she also brings a pretty fountain statue to life.  In a quest reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz, Stone Girl, Ojo and the Patchwork Girl set out on a series of adventures to find the rare elements they need to undo the hex, braving challenges and meeting amazing new peoples.  Exploring themes such as the importance of friendship, welcoming diversity, perseverance, self-esteem and love, this play is perfect for children and for folks who once were.

2005 winner of the Aurand Harris Memorial Playwriting Award presented by the New England Theatre Conference
